The Coca-Cola Company had humble beginnings in Atlanta, where pharmacist, John Pemberton sold a mixture of syrup and carbonated water for 5 cents a glass. What began as a one-product company in 1886 has grown to more than 500 brands as of 2011, with products available in more than 200 countries.

The product that started it all is Coca-Cola itself. Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton was inspired by curiosity and mixed together a caramel-colored liquid that he carried to Jacob's Pharmacy. He combined it with carbonated water, and the people who sampled it knew it was special. The drink sold at a rate of nine glasses a day. Pemberton died in 1888 before the company saw any great success. Today there are several varieties of Coke, including Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Cherry Coke. Other soft drinks are Sprite, orange and grape Fanta and A&W Root Beer.
